Diana Shnaider won the Queen’s Club crowd back over after sending Katie Boulter packing in the second round.
The No. 5 seed stormed back from a break down to win 2-6 6-3 6-2 in a match that was briefly interrupted by rain, and had something to say to the crowd.
While the fans inside the Andy Murray Arena were gutted to see Boulter bow out, they immediately warmed to Shnaider when the 21-year-old apologised for beating one of their own and shared her love for the British No. 1.
As Shnaider stepped up for her on-court interview, emcee Jenny Drummond confirmed the world No. 12 had something to say.
“Yeah, you know, I definitely want to first apologise to the crowd!” the Russian said.
“I mean, Katie is such a lovely person. I love her with all my heart, to play her and beat her in front of a home crowd, I feel so sorry! I hope you’re not going to hate me too much and come support me tomorrow.”
