Rafael Nadal‘s uncle believes that Carlos Alcaraz has the talent and the circumstances to surpass his nephew’s achievements in tennis.
Nadal retired with 22 Grand Slams – the second-highest total of all time in the men’s game.
Alcaraz has already won five major titles at 22 years old, and uncle Toni believes that the fact he is not competing with Roger Federer and a prime Novak Djokovic will work in his favour.
He said: “Alcaraz is a player who currently has the best conditions in the world. He is fast, has a strong forehand and backhand. But he also has one big advantage – he did not play against the best Federer and the best Djokovic, unlike my nephew.
“He has a great rival in [Jannik] Sinner, but the others… are not so terrible. Can he match Rafa? Maybe even overtake him. I’m not a prophet, but it has all the prerequisites.”
