Liverpool parade crash LIVE: Fans ‘seriously injured’ as police issue statement | Football | Sport

Liverpool fan Matt has spoken to BBC News and recalled the harrowing incident.

He said: “I was there with my family moments before. I watched fireworks going off, the celebrations on the Liverpool bus passing us on The Strand.

Liverpool fans began to walk off Water Street and the crowd was thousands of people around us.

“All of a sudden there were screams ahead of us and this dark blue car came through the crowd.

“It just wasn’t stopping. I managed to grab my daughter and managed to jump out of the way. It missed myself and my family by inches.

“We then turned and watched what was happening behind us before running.

“At that point, you could see an ambulance, which had stopped, provided a natural barrier to slow the car down.

“As it passed me, it was being chased by a group of men who were trying to bang on the side and throw things at it.

“The back of the rear wind-shield had been smashed it but it just had no intention of stopping.

“At that point, we and others, dived into a side street. I wanted to make sure my family were safe and then I looked back and could see some people sitting on the ground surrounded by people.

“My attention then turned to my family and we decided to move away.”
