DWP and HMRC May bank holiday payment dates for State Pension and more | Personal Finance | Finance

Two bank holidays are approaching and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and Social Security Scotland have confirmed early payment dates for a host of benefits. Scheduled payments are due on the first of those, Monday, May 5.

DWP benefit payments due on this date will arrive before the weekend on Friday, May 2. This will affect those in receipt of the State Pension, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Universal Credit, Adult Disability Payment (ADP), Attendance Allowance and other benefits.

It has also been confirmed Jobcentres, offices and phone lines will be closed on Monday, May 5, but will be open as per usual from Tuesday, May 6.

The DWP explained in an official statement: “On Monday 5 May offices and phone lines are closed. To make sure people get their payment on a day when our offices are open, arrangements have been made to make some payments early. If the expected payment date is Monday 5 May then benefits will be paid early on Friday 2 May.”

The next bank holiday – Monday, May 26 – will also see some payments due on that date issued earlier on Friday, May 23. HMRC and Social Security Scotland have confirmed that Child Benefit and devolved payments due on that date will be made earlier. DWP is expected to confirm similar changes nearer the time as the May Spring bank holiday is recognised across Great Britain.
